About Norman Roberts

Dr. Norman Roberts is a retired dentist living in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He is an avid reader, a former editor of New Scene Magazine, and author of The Blackjacks. A successful mortgage lender until the 2007 real estate crash, Dr. Roberts returned to investing in the market in August, 2008; and by March, 2009 had suffered an unrealized loss of $650,000. Although he claims no special investing expertise, luck, or insider knowledge, he developed a trading philosophy and trading strategies that converted that loss to a $600,000 gain by March of the following year, a remarkable $1.25 million turn-around. Knowledge he has since shared with friends and family, several of who urged that he write about it and share his knowledge with others. Consequently, he wrote and published The Dividend Investor's Guide in 2011. On March 2, 2016, Dr. Roberts wrote his first article as a Seeking Alpha contributor, exposing what he considered a legal attempt at extortion. He soon became a prolific, although mildly controversial contributor, and rapidly built a large base of followers and soon became the #1 contributor in Seeking Alpha's Dividend Strategy category. Based on his expertise and experience as a cumulative preferred dividend investor and the many articles he has since written on the subject, Dr. Roberts has recently published The Art & Science of Preferred Dividend Investing.

Norman Roberts demystifies preferred stocks in a clear, logical unfolding that helps me in my own due diligence for these holdings. Then after you buy the book he sticks around, (blogging on Seekingalpha.com) continuing the conversation and giving more tips.

If you read the different reviews very well submitted, and I am in agreement with them, is utmost impossible not to be repetitive in my comments on his book.
Therefore I will relate my own experience. Since I begun to read Mr. Roberts articles as Seeking Alpha contributor.I begin to follow his recommendations, changing part of my portfolio from common shares to preferred accumulative shares, with excellent results for a small investor like me that requires a more secure income stream. The simply way that he explained and where to look for information in order that you could make your own research was excellent. What a difference from some other contributors with concepts that are sometimes difficult to understand. The book, I will say, is a more detailed, structured and expanded compendium of his articles and recommendations

This book is aimed at investors whose primary goal is to obtain a steady stream of income. Mr. Roberts introduces us to the world of preferred stocks. Only a small fraction of companies listed on the stock exchanges issue preferred stock. He explains the differences between cumulative, non-cumulative, and convertible preferred stock and the unique risk/reward profile of each. He encourages each of us to determine our own risk tolerance and only then should we begin using the tools he provides to determine which preferred issues will most safely provide the reward we seek.

Norman presents a solid story, that many of us have traveled in our efforts to as Norm so succinctly states it "I would invest in the market as if I were a lender; consequently, investing exclusively in dividend paying stocks and treating those dividends as if they were earned interest on an investment." Put another way, every investor must focus not only on return of capital but also on an appropriate level of compensation based on risk for the "use" of ones capital. That mind set tends to be contrary to much of the what investors are fed from the financial services industry .. great read, tips are solid ... certainly a minimal investment for a rich source of information on a market segment that has much to offer

I had not been very convinced about preferred stock investing until I found the posts of Norman Roberts at SeekingAlpha. So I bought the book as soon as I was published. I think it is a must read if you want to form an opinion about preferred stock investing. For personal reasons, I have not been able yet to buy my first preferred, but my next buy will be one for sure. I find the tips very useful, but having to download the whole book every time seems ineficient and makes it difficult to keep a history of all tips. I would really miss them if the were discontinued. Dr. Roberts' book is mandatory reading for any investor interested in obtaining a predicable and reliable stream of income. He clearly explains the unique characteristics of preferreds and emphasizes the reality that, absent a company getting into financial trouble in extremis, for those investors who do not have to sell their preferreds at any specific time, they will either continue to profit from the dividend income and/or ultimately receive the face value of the stock. He also does an outstanding job of explaining why the prices of these stocks do not fluctuate to the degree common stocks fluctuate. In summary, this book is a must read and should be considered the touchstone of primers regarding preferreds for any investor who is: 1. Interested in obtaining an almost guaranteed yield of between 6% and 10%. 2. Does not need to sell the stock to gain access to the principal. 3. Desires to safeguard capital and 4. Is willing to give up any significant upside.

I have learned one good thing from Dr. Roberts, that is if I decide to invest in a preferred stock of a company, the first thing I check that company's common stock price. Dr. Roberts gives me an idea to start, like the doctor says, if is your money, what the heck you are going to do with it that is up to you.
His book is down to earth, easy to read and is damn inexpensive. By the way, I own some cockroaches stocks that the doctor prescribed for me, check it out. It is well worth your time and money.

This book is fantastic if you want to invest your in preferred stock and achieve yields of 6%-12% with minimal risk of market changes that affect common stocks. Norm tells you how to evaluate preferred stocks and pick the ones right for you. As a bonus he provides a tip each week not published elsewhere to those that purchase his book. Some tips are for the conservative investor and some for those of us that can tolerate minimal risk. So far there have been 8 tips and I have invested a total of about $50,000 in 4 of them and have been very pleased with my purchases. I would have bought 2 more, but I waited too long to get them at the price I wanted. Thank you Norm and I can't wait to see your next tip. This book is a true unbiased source of information.

Have been working with Norman for the last years during my efforts to re-structure my portfolio using preferreds. His book has been helpful to us in creating a strategy for this exercise. Thanks to his good suggestions, we have been having some success. He has always been available to answer any of my sometimes "beginners" questions, which makes us a little more confident with our changes. Thanks Norm for the wonderful work and we look forward to "collaborating at a distance" in the future.

Norm takes a lot of information on preferred stocks and puts them all into one location. The book is written well, explained in a way that even an average investor is able to understand and profit from his recommendations.

If you're buying this book as a learning tool for preferred stock investing, you will not be disappointed.
