About Claire Montgomery

Claire Montgomery is a young West Australian raised author that is currently residing in Hamilton, New Zealand. Her fictional works come in two varieties. The first is creative takes on the seemingly implausible and disastrous scenarios from her own life. The second is a fictional approach to exploring life with mental illness, a topic she became passionate about after losing several close friends to suicide in her teenage years. When she’s not glued to a computer typing out her latest catastrophe, you can find her in the kitchen baking something ridiculously delicious and often multi-layered.

This was a really good story. Callie is so human and relatable and I'm glad she was able to make Adrian finally see the truth. Melody is definitely a nightmare. The ending was really cute.

Claire has captured the ability to show her very human characters by their dialogue. Each protagonist is easily recognisable by readers who have experienced friends of similar personality traits. Claire contrasts her antagonist strongly revealing a manipulating, moral blackmailing, prospective mother-In-law who promises to add crisis and climaxes throughout the story. Already we are looking forward to how her comeuppance is achieved. Adding to her writing style Claire pops in original metaphors to surprise her audience and add colour to the story - Glad McGough

Review by: Kate E Brown on Oct. 19, 2016 :
Claire Montgomery artfully directs dialogue into new territories by pleasantly surprising the reader at each turn. What begins as an unsure interaction grows rapidly in ways that only family feuds can, without lapsing in character development or storyline. The characters of 'The Escape Route' are multidimensional and intriguing, and I cannot wait to see what happens next.

The author makes it clear on what the subject of the short story is (in this case, disagreeing on wedding plans). I can visualize and relate to the story. I can't wait to read what happens next (it leaves me hanging in suspense)!
