I love Jordan L. Hawk's books. I've had a difficult time getting into her HexWorld series. The 13th Hex was great, but I'm still struggling through HexBreaker. That said, I LOVED A Christmas Hex.
Roland was a lovable character - very much in the vein of how Whyborne was at the beginning of the Whyborne & Griffin series. I adored his bravery, even in the face of certain death. Gus was a little more difficult to understand, but that was due to it being a short story and the fact the POV was Roland's.
I loved it. From Roland's fears about his wolf, to his career, to the reactions at the end to it. I think this book also gave me a little more understanding of the concept of 'hex'.
If you're looking for a fantastic story with familiars, witches, foiled crimes, historical reference, urban fantasy, and the holidays, this is for you.
Definitely 5 stars.
