About James Hold

"First you're an unknown, then you write one book and you move up to obscurity." — Martin Meyers

I published my first book in 2004. It became an immediate collector's item. I know this for a fact as I have several hundred copies collecting dust in my attic. Critics everywhere said it belonged right up there between Ernest Hemingway and Robert E Howard—on an alphabetical bookshelf.

My influences include Rocky & Bullwinkle, 1950s sci-fi movies, and silver-age comics.

I live in Texas with my Princess wife, and cats Rocky and Dusty. You can contact me at jamesroyhold@gmail.com.

It was after reading Wipe Out, that I began searching through the Authors book list . Just so I can know a bit of indian culture and I was glad to find this funny short story.

The first line of this story made me laugh, as I enjoy rational, dark humour. After this, I was intrigued as to where this story was going and where it would take me. I wasn’t sure.
I liked the way that the story is told as a Native American legend, which provides an important life lesson. However, whilst many stories seem to crow about the wonders of courage and bravery, this story is about hubris; it warns us that that we humans have limits in the natural world and we should not fall into the trap of an inflated ego, which may overestimate our abilities.
I also felt that there was some deeper symbolism in this story, which really got me thinking, with walking under water, rather than on water. But then again, I may just be imagining it.
Altogether an enjoyable and thought provoking read.

I totally agree with diego, nice story, nice ending. I have been looking for your book (incident set in stone) to review it, only that I can't find it but I have to say it's amazing, magnificent, striking, awesome and indescribable. Really great work.
