He got caught cheating. He didn’t really even need to cheat. Especially not off Carmine Ippo’s test, which was probably only going to be one letter grade better than Mark’s. Regardless, Mark did it. And the teacher caught him dead to rights. And now wanted Mark’s mother to come to the parent-teacher conference night to discuss Mark’s behavior.

As far as Mark was concerned, that was not going to happen.
Mark and his mother Connie had an agreement; if he fucked up one more time in school, he was gonna have to go live with his dad in the Bronx. Although Mark’s dad was a good mechanic and Mark could learn a lot from him, he was also a major asshole. And Mark didn’t wanna be anywhere near him. And he definitely didn’t wanna go live with him.
