This is a straight forward account of a young black woman’s experience living in multiple lower class neighborhoods. The book is divided into several miniature chapters. Brown discusses everything from her homelessness to her tumultuous relationship with her mother. If you grew up in a middle class world, you would be shocked about some of the things that go on in the ghetto and its outskirts.
