I was born a raised in Lobethal, South Australia, which is a small town of German migrant descent in the Adelaide Hills.
I had read almost every book in the primary school library in Lobethal before I left for high school education in Adelaide.
I went to the University of Adelaide and completed a Chemical Engineering degree before gaining employment with BHP at their Whyalla Steelworks as a Process Engineer, where I worked for thirteen years.
I transferred to BHP Engineering, a separate division of BHP and then moved to Wollongong to provide process engineering for the construction and modification of steel strip processing lines in Australia and overseas. I have travelled to many countries during this twenty-one year period including, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Europe, India and Saudi Arabia and engaged in many experiences as a result. I have lived in many differing cultures and seen how they differ from my own. I draw on these experiences in my writing to provide real life interactions within my books and stories.
I have continued reading prolifically during this whole time period. It is not uncommon for me to be reading three or four books at the same time on completely differing topics, both fiction and non-fiction. I mainly enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy books, my favorite authors being Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and J.R.R. Tolkien. I also enjoy crime mysteries. I am also fascinated with ancient and medieval history in Europe.
Having been made redundant in 2015, I considered what I wanted to do. I decided to start writing science fiction, given my enjoyment of the topic, especially the possibilities of space travel and human expansion into the universe. I have dreamed of flying to the stars since I was a child looking up at the Milky Way on a moonless and cloudless winter’s night, wondering what was out there.
