About J-Mag Guthrie

J-Mag Guthrie dabbles in a little bit of a lot of things. Too many to enumerate, but the diversity shows in her poetry. She lives with her two youngest (of five) children and her husband of many years (the number keeps going up...this is generally considered a good thing). She has an associate's degree in computer programming which she would like to find a full-time job pursuing. She also shares space with cats named Noodle and Fur Elise. She is literally in the closet—as her photo shows, her workspace is located in a functioning closet space. But it has good lighting (the former residents of the property may have been engaged in illicit agricultural activities) and privacy.

This is a collection of thoughtful and insightful poems, taking an unusual angle on real-life issues and delving into areas like mathematics that are rarely explored in poetry. But don’t imagine that these poems are elitist or ‘difficult’ – J-Mag Guthrie writes with a light hand and produces work that is engaging and often fun.
I enjoyed this book and I’m pleased to add it to my fast-growing collection of good modern poetry.
