About Jennifer Gance

I'm Jennifer, author of Spark - Igniting an interest in health care. My mission is simple: I want to share as many career possibilities as I can with young adults or anyone considering a career in health care.

I have worked in human resource positions for the past 20 years. I have worked in almost all major industries directly or as a consultant. During these 20 years I have become quite an expert on the topic of interviewing. I have achieved the highest level of human resource professional designation (SPHR) and am a certified behavioral interviewer. I have been on the board of the American Lung Association for four years and I have worked for the University Medical Center in Texas and Kiser Permanente in Colorado. These positions made me intimately aware of health care careers.

I have interviewed thousands of people, and one common thing I have found is that the majority of people fell into their profession; it was not a planned destination. While I think it is fine to amble through life like I did—and I have enjoyed each opportunity that has come along—I often wonder if I had known then what I know now whether I would have made the same career choices. If I had been able to get my hands on this book as a teenager, I would have definitely considered a career in healthcare.

Spark is a great book for anyone interested in getting into the medical field, especially young people. It gives a thumbnail discription of many opportunities besides just nursing or doctoring. I found it very interesting and would recommend that it be put in all libraries and in schools.

This is a well-written book by Jennifer Gance, replete with interviews of medical professionals who have a passion for their calling. It gives a quick yet impressive first-hand overview of the careers in the medical profession by those actually doing the jobs today.

As one of the interviewees, I was captivated by my fellow healthcare workers' accounts. This is a book those who are considering work in healthcare to dig into and get a better feel for where your gifts will flourish.

High recommendation.
