It's not every day that religion appears as a front page story in today's media, particularly on a regular basis. But over the past 20 years one religion has made the front page perhaps more than any other . . . the religion of Islam. Islam claims up to one billion followers worldwide. It is not only the fastest growing religion in the world, but its influence touches virtually every area of life--not only the spiritual, but the political and economic as well.
There are over a billion Muslims worldwide. Muslims represent the majority population in fifty-six countries. Many people are surprised to know that the majority of Muslims are not Arab. Even though most Arabs are Muslims, there are Arabs who are Christians, Jews and atheists. Only 20 percent of the world’s 1.2 billion Muslims come from Arab countries. There are significant Muslim populations in India, China, Central Asian Republics, Russia, Europe, and America.
Many of us will find opportunities to befriend Muslim neighbors, co-workers, or friends. As I do, I go thru lot of discussion with non Muslims about Islam, Muslims faith, history, terrorism, ISIS, and the barriers that exist between Muslims and Christians or Jews. Islam demands that our relationship with mankind should be one of sincerity and responsibility. It should be one where we have respect for the honor, reputation and privacy of others. Islam teaches us that we are not only held accountable for our own attitudes and actions but also for anything else over which we have control or influence over, in our society or the world around us.
As Muslim I asked always to don’t setting prejudgments, until they know what Islam is, what prophet Muhammad (p) say, the Quran verses.... Ultimately, we are facing this prejudice in the media (Islamophobia), literature, and every-day conversation. I collect some answers and researches that I have done in this booklet to response into the following topics:
What is Islam? What does Islam teach? Who are Muslims? What does the word "jihad" mean? Is Islam the religion of peace? How Islam confirms women's rights, human rights? How Christians and Jews treated in Islam? These are some of the questions we want to address in this essay.
