Dark Side is a refreshingly different tale delving into the vampire genre, but one where the vampires don’t necessarily have the complete upper hand. The addition of the Vampire Bible, a code of laws that all vampires must follow, is an interesting twist that is well-explored within the book.

The main character of Koleen O’Brien is great, a feisty redhead who is animated and coy and scene-stealing. The setup of the tale is good, with the characters not knowing what is arrayed against them, though the readers have some idea, which adds to the tension.

There is a lot of action in the game, and it’s clear that this is what author C C Brown loves best, and is quite good at writing it. But there are also some humorous moments and the author never fails to add characterization elements or plot points in the middle of the exciting parts. It’s not literary fiction, but borrows some of the best elements from that genre in drips and drabs to make Dark Side a truly special read. It should have little trouble winning over a legion of adoring fans once published. It’s better than most vampire fiction out there today, and so much better than Twilight.

This book has a cleaver plot, sort of a Dan Brown novel with vampires. Any one who likes the Charlaine Harris-Sookie Stackhouse series will love this book. It is fast-paced: Black Widow Society, sacred book of the undead, and a pack of blood thirsty vampires. It is a real page turner with each chapter ending in a cliffhanger. The characters Dominic and Koleen are serious handfuls. Like the humor. This must have a sequel!

Wow! The Black Widows in this book really get the best of the vampires. Only took 3 hours to read. By the looks of the ending, there has to be a sequel!
