I love Bianca D'Arcs' work! This is another prime example of her taking her characters through a difficult situation to resolving it in a way that both are stronger for the problems they faced together.
Beth is a mer who lived life with evil before escaping to her new life within a new pod. She became upset about going to live back close to the shore because of the evil that stalks her. In learning how to defend herself and the pod she starts to have self-confidence and begins to feel self-worth.
Trevor is a bear with a mission to fight evil wherever he and his brothers in arms run into it. He came to recon and strategize with the bears of Grizzly Cove about the threats they face against their community. He's also there as a liaison for Jesse Moore about the "private zoo" that Seamus (the Koala of The Luck of the Shifters) was held captive.
The sparks fly but the fear Beth holds within makes her run for a while. Grace (a mer friend of Beth's) and Grace's mate Jack, help ease the fear a little by inviting Beth and Trev to have a meal at her place. Observing and talking to Moira (Seamus' selkie mate) helps to calm Beth's fear. Though only spending time with Trevor can show Beth that not all men are mostly ego and little care of their chosen mates.
This was an absolutely fabulous story! I can't wait for the next book in the series
