About Jason Makansi

Jason Makansi has spent his entire career converting words to numbers and numbers to words. He earned his BS in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University in New York, and has spent the last fifteen years as an independent consultant to the electricity industry for clients ranging from garage shop inventors to members of the Fortune 50 global corporations. A serial entrepreneur, he has raised venture capital for companies, launched and became Director of Research for a hedge fund focused on the electricity industry, led two Washington DC policy organizations, started up industry publications and industry events, and authored industry level reports at the intersection of technology, policy, and finance. A sought after speaker and thought leader, Makansi is the author of three professional books, the most recent the highly regarded Lights Out: The Electricity Crisis, the Global Economy, and What It Means To You (John Wiley & Sons, 2007). For several years, he pursued a higher degree in Sociology researching financial engineering and its impact on the economy and society.
