About Michael C. Hughes

Det. Ty Connell is a hybrid character based on several police officers Michael Hughes has known and worked with personally at city, state, and federal levels. Michael also counts as a reliable source a formerly active member of one of New York City's major crime families since retired from "the Life."

Michael has been a court reporter, journalist, feature writer, editor, managing editor, columnist, owner/creative director of Hughes Advertising & Promotions Inc., and owner/senior writer of Prime Time Media PR Services. He has had three published biographies of colorful sports/media personalities. His book about "The Detroit Race Riots of 1967" -- DISPOSSESSED: THE BURNING OF MURDER CITY USA -- was a nominee in the 2018 Michigan Notable Books campaign.

Raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, Michael became hooked on the world of mystery fiction when, at age fourteen, he discovered Conan Doyle and Dashiell Hammett. His first mystery short was done as a school project. He attended Laurentian University, B.A. English, and U of M Ann Arbor, Dramatic Scriptwriting. He has a private pilot's license, owns some nice weapons, and is a member of his local gun club, also a civilian member of his regional police association where he keeps up to date on police issues and developments through evenings at the police union social club.
