Odyssey of a Woman: The Trilogy
The gripping story of the journey of a woman - determined, despite the
ever-increasing odds, to rise above her past in crime & to claim her
rightful place in the legal fraternity & on the international television
Odyssey of a Woman: The Trilogy is a memoir comprised of three personal essays of the author, Brenda Wardle. Book One is Odyssey of a Woman: Coloured Diaries (Experiences of an Eastern Cape ‘Mixed-Breed’, a book in which the author traces her upbringing in a racially diverse family in Parkridge, East London at the height of Apartheid in South Africa. In Book Two, Odyssey of Woman: Through The Fire Wardle relives the years she lived as a white collar criminal. These are tales she remembers with ‘disgust’ and ‘embarrassment’ and in Book Three ‘The Phoenix Rises From The Ashes’, Wardle tells of her difficulty recapturing her soul which she says was sacrificed on the altar of materialism. Life is an oft long-winding journey, laden with dangerous curves, twists, cul-de-sacs and
turns. It is an uphill battle. Odyssey of a Woman is a book about the relentless pursuit for happiness and a woman’s struggle to defy the odds and to conquer mountain after mountain. A woman born a gentle soul & large character, forced by circumstance, scorn, ridicule and humiliation to become better and to get even. This book is as much about actions, reactions, repercussions and the art of survival as it is about change, about fight, about flight, about fright and about rejection. It exposes the fallibility of human beings and juxtaposes this with the potential to achieve greatness. Odyssey of a Woman exposes the consequences of societal rejection, the hatred and disdain often lumped on those who are different. The author takes the reader through a world of crime, of glitz and glamour, of materialism, corruption, persecution, prosecution, blackmail, detention and extortion. Whilst the book moves one to tears taking the reader from sadness to sympathy, from crude laughter to hilarity, it also leads to empathy and anger at the dishonesty and the deception. It is genius co-existing with the audaciousness of living life on the edge. A page turner, no doubt and one is left hurt, shocked, perturbed, yet happy that in the end, triumph over adversity is possible.
