About Kat Irwin

Hi there!

I’m Kat Irwin, an indie thriller author living on the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. (Yes, that cold country where maple syrup and GSP come from. I’ll take no credit for Nickleback or Justin Beiber though, thank you very much.) I write the Kira Brightwell series, featuring a clever, snarky heroine, who also kicks ass.

Like my main character, Kira, I’m an introvert. (Coincidence? Probably not.) When I’m not wrapped up in writing/creating things, I’m usually either playing an old-school PC RPG (Lands of Lore, Quest for Glory, etc.), rocking out to Nine Inch Nails, or watching non-North American TV shows, which seems to be my thing lately. (Overall favorites so far include ‘Sherlock’, ‘Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries’, and ‘The IT Crowd’. I also enjoy a good ‘8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown’, but who doesn’t?)

Otherwise, I tend to sign up for things that both excite and terrify me at the same time. (Much like Jeff Hardy, my muse is a charismatic enigma.) These activities have so far included rappelling, cliff jumping, cave snorkeling, ziplining, and captaining a team for GISHWHES (AKA: the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen).

I also write fast-paced, epic fantasy as Jacquelyn Smith, if you’re into that kind of thing.
