Great fiction in the mold of Flannery O'Conner. In fact made me recall that favorite line of the Southern gothic writer--"the life you save may be your own."
Marc, like Flannery, is gifted at describing the strange, yet mundane details that drive the story. Small actions, like having the main character paint her toenails a reddish-blood color speak volumes about her inner connection to violence and pain.
