I was born in Pretoria, South Africa, but I grew up in Kempton Park, where I still reside currently. From when I was little I had quite an imagination, yet strangely enough considering how things panned out, I had quite a dislike of reading books. That is, until one December when I read a mystery book. I think a seed was planted then, because two years later when I was working in the U.K. at a hotel called LowWood hotel —now changed to Low Wood Bay— one particular night I picked up a series tucked away at the back of the reception. Chronicles of Narnia. And boy, did the reading bug bite me then in force. From then on I gobbled up series after series and my room became quite a library of fantasy books.
While studying I.T. at a little college called Torque I.T., I happened to be reading a series called the Inheritance Cycle, that quite got its hooks into me, so much so that when I finished the second book, I was already desperate to see when the third would come out. As I didn’t know the name of the upcoming book, I typed inthe name of the world and the very first link that popped up at that time, was indeed the name of that world. But when I entered the site, it was a pro-board, a RP site.
In an instant I was fascinated. There was a place where people wrote their own characters and stories in the worlds authors created? Fan fiction…Amazing.
Well, it wasn’t more than a few minutes until I started creating my very first character. A female elf lost in the mountains with a dwarf that raised her. Believe it or not, my very first post was only a hundred words long. I could literally not write more than that. But with the help of a few friends from the board Fresca created, ones that I have a special place in my heart for—and will always have— I started my journey of creating stories. Angmor, Elvorn, Briae and Emma the flying spaghetti monster, thank you so much for your kindness. I often think of you all. This story is as much for you as anyone.
With their help and the help of my friends at home, it became a desire to create a bigger world plot, and creating exciting, mysterious places and scenarios to write in.The final bolt brought all of that to the forefront. It was the day I sat in an international exam that the final realization struck me, I needed to write a series.
From the start I wanted to create a world where other people like me would want to write their own stories. And this remains one of my goals.
After that, I studied fiction writing at SA’s Writer’s college and a few other courses that would aid me in persevering throughout this project. Thank you Alex for your excellent guidance through my first draft. That, with my hiking trips with my family and friends, the Fish River Canyon and Otter standing was such a driving force. Sleeping under the stars next to river in the desert with nothing more than the stuff you could carry in a rucksack, well suffice it say, though many may not understand the draw, it is still some of the best times in my life so far.Nature is sometimes one of the biggest inspirations. I love the nature. I love reading.
Most of all, I love my Savior whom shone a light unlike any other in my life. Seek with all your heart the true and only living God and you shall find Him. How true was that!
My hobbies include another strange one. I went from not being able to draw, to now being able to draw things for my maps. I love creating maps of fantastical places. And I have quite a love for documenting moments and bird watching.
Well that is me, I’m the adventurous type, but I also like my peaceful times, just reading, writing, creating maps and researching. And, huhuhu, I really do enjoy Latin and Ballroom dancing!
In the end, one of the most important things in the ENTIRE world is something that I hold close to my heart.
That we are there for each other, because without love (unconditional), it all means nothing.
