About James Hold

"First you're an unknown, then you write one book and you move up to obscurity." — Martin Meyers

I published my first book in 2004. It became an immediate collector's item. I know this for a fact as I have several hundred copies collecting dust in my attic. Critics everywhere said it belonged right up there between Ernest Hemingway and Robert E Howard—on an alphabetical bookshelf.

My influences include Rocky & Bullwinkle, 1950s sci-fi movies, and silver-age comics.

I live in Texas with my Princess wife, and cats Rocky and Dusty. You can contact me at jamesroyhold@gmail.com.

Great series, great puns throughout the series, semi racy in spots in a pg-13+ way.
But enjoyable and inventive.

Mr Hold, over the course of his literary career, has inflicted some terrible puns on us for which he deserves to be shot. "Free Bird" begins and ends with two of his worst. I laughed out loud when I read them.

"A ticked-off ornithologist, after being ticketed in a speed trap, trains an avian army to deposit their noxious droppings over a city, bringing business to a standstill. The mayor calls on Akkadia, the Abracadabrical Amazon, for help.for help" — who after a couple of missteps, comes through in the end.

The story is essentially a "Super Chicken" episode, the author as much as says so in the text, with Akkadia's assistant Ziggurat subbing for Super Chicken's sidekick Fred. Like Fred, he delivers some clever lines.

The story reads well and the style employed here fits the character better than the previous outing, "Shakin' All Over."

Oh, and there's only a single WOWZA!

"Wade in the Water" remains the best story in the series, but "Free Bird" is definitely Number Two.

Did I just say that? Ouch!

Another great piece from Mr. Holds. Its start out funny and ends funny.

Appreciated the villain, it was like watching a good show on TV.
