Vathion inherits his father's privateer space fleet when his father is assassinated. At the age of 16, he must take over as admiral of 12 battle ships and fight in a civil war that's lasted for 30 years. Just when he's getting the hang of things, he makes a huge mistake and meets the one who started the war in the worst way possible. To get out of the mess he made, he must learn how to act instead of just react. However, his only way out means sacrificing his morals. When the dust settles after his final showdown with Ha'Likka, he sets aside his own issues and grief to take over as emperor and put Gilonnia back together.
