What a perfect time to discover this book! I was transported to another world to find some problems are 'universal' - not to mention there is an exciting element of criminality, subterfuge, and sleuthing. I was a little disappointed by "The Shape of Water". "Lower World" will make a better film if done right!

Lower World by Eloise Hamann was a detailed and well thought out fantasy of life below the ocean's waves. This is not a mermaid tale but a reimagined civilized society underwater. Once I was able to understand the unique language and the physical aspects of their daily routines, I was swept up in the mysterious lives of the tetraped people. Although this story is complete, there are enough unanswered questions to allow for a sequel.
