Justus Ondieki has been writing articles at faith writers. He is also a God fearing young man who went through a lot in his life as he grew up. Justus' parents brought him up in a godly way and hence his strong faith in the Lord. His testimonies about school life are really touching and heart lifting as he narrates how he grew up in the country, went to study in the city, and the challenges faced. More
I was brought up in rural areas and so I was used to life there. In 1998 when I did my final examinations in primary school, I was with high spirits to go into high school.
But then I remember mum telling me, "Justus, high schools nowadays are very expensive. We cannot afford to take you in high school"
That startled me. It amazed me. I knew she was telling the truth. My dad used to work in Nakuru and I was in Kisii. Dad's income was low; it only supported the family going on and so he could not afford extra for school.
One day, we were in the fields weeding maize with mum and my second brother, Dennis.
Then something came into my mind. I said, "Mum, you know what, whether there's money or not, my God is able and I will go to Nakuru in high school".
Guess what, mum laughed. Then I added, "This is my last time to work here".
She even laughed more because she knew the following week we could work in the fields even harder.... We went home after work and to my amazement found our neighbour who had just come from Nakuru that same day...
