About C. F. King

C. F. King is Charlotte Firbank-King’s author name.
Charl was born in Johannesburg and her family moved to Zambia. Raised in the small town of Livingstone, the bush surrounding the Victoria Falls became her playground and birthed her love of animals.
Charl studied art at Pretoria Art College. Later, after a failed marriage and three children that she adores, she achieved success with her detailed paintings of wildlife, marine creatures, and tribal people. For the first years, writing took a backseat to her art.
Charl has explored southern Africa from shore to shore and traveled to England and France to absorb their rich history.
She now lives in Cape Town. Charl an incurable romantic, and her love of words and history made historical mystery romance a natural fit.
Her two daughters, son, and daughter-in-law, all encourage and support her writing and art. Charl’s second husband and soulmate was a cop. When he was shot and killed, the tragedy drove her deeper into writing to escape grief.
Each one of her books is very different, ranging from dark plots, shrouded in mystery, to adventure in the Africa wilderness, social injustices, and light, humorous stories.
She researches each era she writes in, weaving her characters and plots around the history of the time. Charl does take liberties with the language otherwise it would make reading tiring.
She has a daily routine and starts work at about 7 am, finishing around 5:30 pm. Writing and art are her passions and they seldom feel like work to her.
Charl edits, ghostwrites and illustrates for a US company, Inspiration for Writers, Inc. The CEO, Sandy Tritt, is her friend, mentor, and editor, and taught Charl her writing skills.
