I thought this book was extremely interesting in concept. It strikes me as an adaptation of Aesop's 'Tortoise and the Hare' for the modern age - something that reader can genuinely relate to, a competition rather than a metaphorical race. It sees Felicita, a shy turtle, pitted against Francesco, for victory in a writing contest. Its messages, while sometimes a little on the nose, are great life lessons in a real setting that is not often explored in children's fiction. The language is challenging, which makes this book a great learning opportunity for younger readers.
