About Amanda Apthorpe

If I was to identify a guiding principle in my life it would be to find balance, in particular, between rational and creative modes of thinking. The outward expression of this is evident in my qualifications. Holding degrees in Science education and a Masters of Science, I have been a teacher of Science and Biology for twenty six years.

As a student of creative writing, I completed a Master of Arts with First Class Honours for my thesis, the novel Whispers in the Wiring. In April of this year, Whispers in the Wiring was chosen out of several hundred manuscripts as the winner of the inaugural Atlas Award and will be published on 7 November 2011.

Currently, I am studying for my PhD and have written a second novel, The Kos Letter, as a component of the thesis.

Balancing the rational and creative modes are recurring themes in both novels. Unsurprisingly, the centring principle of yoga has been an important part of my life for over thirty years and I have shared this passion as a teacher of yoga to adults and adolescents.
