About Kirsten Refsing

Kirsten Refsing is a professor emeritus in Japanese Studies and has published many academic works about the languages of Japan and about British missionaries in Japan from 1860 to 1900. This is her first novel where she has chosen to write about the life of the wives and children of the missionaries abroad. Very little material is available about the fates of the missionaries’ families, so she has turned to literary fiction instead.

She lives in Copenhagen and has four children and seven grandchildren.
