K. R. Schultz lives with his wife on Vancouver Island. Where he leads an semi-idyllic life, interrupted by long bouts of hard work. His angst filled teen years led him into the murky realm of poetry, filled with dark and brooding themes.
Once upon a time he had a real job, where he got to write office procedures manuals. It was the stuff of legends, or so he says, It was "The Adventures of Tom Swift" that led him into SF in grade school. In high school "The Lord of the Rings" trapped him in the fantasy genre and he's been living in a fantasy world ever since.
He says Fantasy is a much easier genre for him to wrap his head around than Hard SF because you have to be far too scientific to do it well. (That and the fact that all the real scientists get to pick on you when you mess it up.)
A writing project in high school got him recognized by the teachers (in a good way) and by his peers (not quite as pleasantly). The experience gave him first hand information on being an outsider.
In spite of writing all his life "The Song of the Defiler," is by accident, his first full length novel. ( It originally started out as a descriptive writing exercise over a lunch hour in a fast food restaurant.)
He shamelessly hopes you enjoy his first novel enough to buy the sequel "The Song of the Warrior" which is presently under construction.
