A Week As A Teacher Aide In South London (And Other Stories)
A semi-autobiographical experimental text, accompanied by a series of anecdotal essays (or 'backpacker journalism') and diary entries depicting the worldview of the temp. More
This is a year of life, lust and lethargy condensed into a week, and not too far off the truth to be real – it all happened…on some plane of existence. The cast of characters, the god, and the hope-less working class pawn – a special needs teacher aide, a temp with all the connotations - are all one and the same: the author. This antipodean asshole plays for one cruel week, and for the audience’s pleasure, a part none would envy.
If you are looking for a fair treatment of the experience you will only find the one-sided glance of a man running for his life or the intoxicated stare of someone shielding themselves from reality while so deeply up inside it.
To accompany this semi-autobiographical first course, a degustation follows of anecdotal essays, or backpacker journalism - a not very sincere idealistic perspective, the worldview of the temp.
