About the Series: Best Pets For Kids
Best Pets for Kids series

My co-author for these books is Tristan Pulsifer, age 9. He lives in a multi-pet family and is my go-to expert on what kids like. These books tell children ages 8 to 12 where to get their pet, what care he or she needs and everything a young pet owner must know about good pet parenting. Written in a lively conversational style on the Grade 4 reading level, they are packed with information, pet care tips and colour photos.

We started a book about Tristan’s favourite pet, his leo Gizmo. He learned how to research at the library and online, ask people questions about their pets, brainstorm, mind-map, organize research and we sat together to write and edit. Sometimes we disagreed about what to include and what to say. We worked it out. He helped choose the photos. He also gained greater appreciation and compassion for the pets in his life (that message is also in the books).

The first book wrote was I Want a Leopard Gecko. We wrote the book, put it together during his summer vacation and published it before school started. Tristan became a published author! It was very exciting! Since summer 2016, Tristan and I have written three more I Want a Pet books.
