About Charlotte E. English

English both by name and nationality, Charlotte hasn’t permitted emigration to the Netherlands to damage her essential Britishness. She writes colourful fantasy novels over copious quantities of tea, and rarely misses an opportunity to apologise for something. Spanning the spectrum from light to dark, her works include the Draykon Series, Modern Magick, The Malykant Mysteries and the Tales of Aylfenhame.

About the Series: Modern Magick
As agents of the Society for Magickal Heritage, Cordelia “Ves” Vesper and Jay Patel have an important job: to track down and rescue endangered magickal creatures, artefacts, books and spells wherever they are to be found. It’s a duty that takes them the length and breadth of Britain, and frequently gets them into trouble...

Another terrific tale of daring-do from Ves and Jay and their friends (and relatives in Jay's case)! These stories are tremendous fun, written with humour and lightness. It IS important to have read the others first as the stories flow straight through with few or no re-caps from previous books. (That's a positive for me as I find those summary catch-ups you get in some books quite tedious!)

In this installment Ves and Jay go back to the Fifth Britain and to Farringdale, with many bizarre occurrences along the way as you might expect, such as turning into pancakes! Ves finds out more (and more than she really wants to know) about the mysterious Baron and favourites from previous books (like Mauf the book and Milie the moving house) reappear. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next one!

This is the 5th instalment of the Modern Magick series. It sees the intrepid Ves, and her society partner Jay, retained by the King and Queen of the Troll Court to go back to Farringale and find out why it was left deserted and what can be done, if anything, to restore it.

If you love magic in a modern day setting you will love this series. I really like the 'style' it is written in and especially all the characters that are continued or re-introduced in #5.

Highly recommended !
