I first came to know of C.J. Douglass' work through Twitter, and was sufficiently intrigued by the premise of this story to want to give it a go.

As a short, hot erotica which hints at a great deal more depravity to come (pun very much intended), this is a good story to read with a lover as foreplay or for sounding them out on possible taboo roleplay scenarios. Overall, it's very well written and focuses heavily on the pleasure of the heroine.

My only real qualm with this story is the sometimes uneven way in which the Victorian English is conveyed. The heroine goes from very upper-crust blushing virginal sensibility to gutter language in a way which feels a bit forced. However, that doesn't really detract from the heat of the story or the sense of being in her head, merely a personal observation on my part.

Overall, if you've got a dollar burning a hole in your pocket and a yen for some decent Victorian vampire erotica a la Dracula, you could do a lot worse than give C.J. Douglass a try! 4*
