Marcia Abboud is a Melbourne-based writer. Her first book, a memoir called, Every Shitty Thing – One Woman’s Journey Through Brothers, Betrayals and Botox, was published in August 2018.
Her writing career wasn’t planned. It started in the early 2000s while she was scouting male models for aussieBum, a leading Australian men’s swim and underwear brand, and writing for AusLife, their online magazine. The magazine’s cult following led to freelancing for ReFresh, a glossy men’s magazine in the UK.
Marcia believes firmly in a clean slate. Starting over is her forte. She once deleted an 80,000-word memoir with no regrets.
Her heart remains in Sydney, where she was born and raised, and where her daughter and granddaughter, the light of her life, are, although she now lives in Melbourne with her second husband and commutes regularly to Sydney to be with them. A grandson is on the way, due in early March 2019. He’ll be a Piscean, like Marcia, a common star sign in her family.
In another life, Marcia would be a National Geographic photographer or a nomad. Both would travel lighter — if only she knew how to pack less.
For people who don’t know her, Marcia is pronounced Mar-C-a, not Marsha, as in The Brady Bunch. Her friends call her Marce, or Marcy. She’ll answer to most names except Marsha.
In 2019 Marcia will be working on her second book, Every Fabulous Thing. She hopes it won’t take long, but given her history shit is bound to happen…
