As for why she writes, Christa had this to say: "I write because I have a story that needs to come out. I write because I can't NOT write. I write because I love creating something that pulls me out of my own world and lets me for a little while get lost inside someone or someplace else. And I write because I HAVE to know how the story ends."

The overview sounded interesting, so I thought I'd try this book. The concept is okay, but the execution is deplorable. The pacing is choppy. For those who prefer to these things, there is some graphic violence, and one vivid, but not graphic love scene. It's more awkward than arousing.

The dialogue is juvenile. It sounds like what a sheltered teen might imagine cops and bad guys sound like. The conversational flow is, at best, stilted. The characters have no depth and no appeal. Sean, the lead detective, is supposed to be a really smart cop, but he comes across as a gullible and immature idiot. None of the cops sound terribly professional. I don't think the author did any research into police procedures. If she did, she chose to ignore it. Everything about the "bad guys" is cheesy, silly, and completely unbelievable. Their reasons for committing the crimes, their methods, their organization: it all stretches credulity to about a million light years beyond belief.

This is NOT a cliffhanger. However, the denouement is as monumentally stupid as the rest of this ridiculous farce of a book. I will definitely not be reading more of this series.
