About Rayner Ye

Hi there,

I have always enjoyed writing. When I was about six, my Nan asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I told her I wanted to be an orphan. She laughed and asked me what an orphan does. I said an orphan writes books. That was a bit of a family joke.

But, my path led me to other areas, like getting a BSc degree in Environmental Biology at Oxford Brookes University, teaching English as a foreign language as well as teaching yoga in Indonesia, China, and South Korea for five years, always playing my guitar and writing new songs, and teaching middle school science and high school biology at an international school in Shanghai. Then my husband and I settled in the UK and I did an MA in TESOL and Educational Technology in Manchester, as I thought I could perhaps manage a language school one day in the UK, rather than being paid peanuts as a language teacher. During the MA, I fell pregnant with our first child.

I have been a stay at home mum for six years and a couple of years ago I told my husband I didn't want to be a teacher again when both kids were at school, but wanted to work and make money. He then suggested I follow my childhood dream and write a book.

So that was how it began. I designed the Plan8 Alliance and based its seven solar systems on solar systems with exoplanets in Goldilocks Zones observed by NASA. After world building, I followed the Snowflake Method and designed thirteen points of view characters, each with his/her own storyline, wrote one hundred scene outlines, then started writing the first book. Very fun.

I joined a wonderful writing group where authors beta read each other's chapters, and I discovered I had far too many characters. So, lots of my characters and their storylines have been put on the shelf for later books or later series. Poor things, sitting around, twiddling their thumbs.

I have put this book up for free because I NEED REVIEWS. This is my first self-published book. I am an indie author and indie authors need reviews to make their work more visible. I hope and pray I can do this for the rest of my life and help pay off the mortgage. I loved teaching, but this is so much more fun! If you read this, please give me a review. Just a couple of sentences, even one sentence. Just a short, simple, honest review. It would really help me. Thanks.

Happy reading

Rayner xx
