War is not disastrous for everyone. Igor Bleeny was having a rather good war: business at the Rose Garden slave market was booming, as looting, pillaging and mayhem spread across the Empire. Young Imperial women, bought from Atkoi raiders or other brigands, were now so commonplace that Bleeny had reintroduced the ancient practice of branding them upside down. The girls were strapped to a large wooden wheel which was rotated 180 degrees before the iron was applied. It was a popular attraction for visitors and locals alike. There was even a pleasure house in Akkad City stocked with some of the prettiest specimens from the subjugated worlds, all supplied by Bleeny's business. It was known as The Upside Down Girls and was a very popular venue for Akkadisi men (and occasionally women) wishing to enjoy an entertaining night out or vent their anger and hatred of the Empire upon the helpless, hapless pleasuresluts.

Meanwhile Amanda is plotting revenge, April is sold by the 'honeypot' where she was incarcerated into a kind of slavery far worse, Jemimah has an unpleasant ordeal when Nenuphar falls to the invading Atkoi and marauding berserkers pillage the Emperor's harem; and Kyra discovers her true destiny.
