This series sucked me right in. The author takes everything I love about scifi and fantasy (strange new realities, magic, adventure) and creates a mind-bending adventure with lots of excitement. The book is set far in the future on a strange planet that makes it really hard for tech to function. The original settlers were genetically modified to ease survival, and they've developed magic as a consequence of their environment. Our hero, Nikta Kozan, just wants to deliver mail and mend some family rifts, but instead she gets drawn into a criminal conspiracy with no easy way out. What happens next is two parts action and laughs, with a dash of drama and a pinch of romance. Read it, you won't regret it. Highly recommend!!

Enjoyable read, with a haiku at the start of each chapter.

A futuristic setting on another planet Renga, where technology doesn't work . Nikta is a chimera or kem, a breed of human who in prior generations were engineered with panther DNA to enable survival on Renga's harsh landscape.

She enjoys her job as a post runner, but misses her twin who denies his kem heritage.

She travels to the city where the poor living standards of kems shock her and the racial prejudice of the regs (regular humans) infuriate her. Dangers lurk in the city and her job has suddenly become a lot riskier. Loved the fact that Nikta's DNA and magic abilities gave her an edge.
