About Sheryl Silberman

I started writing about 3 years ago, but I've always had ideas rambling around in my mind that I wanted to get on paper. I derive most of my inspirations for my books from nature, my pets, and my family. I have cats and chickens (odd combination I know) and I love the great outdoors: hiking backpacking kayaking fishing. My parents and siblings even to this day are supportive and loving, a huge contribution behind the themes of my stories. As I write, I feel happy, sometimes I laugh at my own writing and sometimes I cry, but not from sadness. This is the affect I hope my stories have on readers. I want readers to feel good after they close the back cover of my books.

What a charming and heartfelt story! Kitchi, the young osprey, is afraid of water. He is teased by the other animals and feels terrible about his failure. His loving parents are supportive and want to help, but don't know how, so they call on his grandfather. Gently and lovingly, and with the help of mergansers and otters, Grandfather encourages Kitchi to find his inner courage to overcome his fear.

Ms. Silberman describes Kitchi's feelings of inadequacy and the pain of his loving parents with spot-on accuracy and sympathy. Her description of the natural world around Kitchi are breathtaking. Grandfather's gentle encouragement and words of wisdom are a joy to read.

The sweet watercolors perfectly complement the story.

A lovely book!
