I live on a small and mostly defunct farm in western New York, where the events of a typical day include writing and walking my dogs--items not necessarily listed in order of priority. (At least not from the dogs' point of view.)

The title and brief book description easily points to the direction of the story...I enjoyed the writing but I don't understand his reason for killing his dog. I just don't get it.

I'm wondering why did he kill a perfectly good dog? Did I miss something? The writing is fine, but I don't get the story.
