About Leon Gildin

Leon H. Gildin is an attorney who has represented writers, composers and actors. He has developed properties for both television and film and has produced shows on and off Broadway.
One of his short stories became a play entitled “APPEAR AND SHOW CAUSE”, which opened at the Cleveland Playhouse and was subsequently awarded the Audelco Award for its off Broadway production.
Gildin also wrote YOU CAN’T DO BUSINESS (OR MOST ANYTHING ELSE) WITHOUT YIDDISH, published by Hippocrene Books, New York. The initial print runs sold out but the book is still available on He has also translated Yiddish poetry and these translations have been published in many Anglo-Jewish publications.
THE POLSKI AFFAIR, published in 2009, was the winner of the International Book Awards for historical fiction. It told the little known story of the enigmatic role played by the Hotel Polski after the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto in 1943. In it, Gildin explores the fortuitous nature of survival in those horrific times and the moral and emotional impact on those who survived.
In THE FAMILY AFFAIR — a sequel to THE POLSKI AFFAIR — Gildin examines the unexpected consequences of events long past and how they affected not only the survivors but also their children and grandchildren.
Gildin now resides in Paradise Valley, Arizona with his wife, Gloria.
