Leo Vaughan stirred as his alarm call switched the Communications Feed from mute to medium volume. He didn’t have the level of seniority to switch it off entirely; not yet, anyway. He smiled as the window blinds opened. The view, of regimented windows in the government accommodation block, wasn’t exciting but Leo didn’t mind, even though it was early on Monday morning and he had a busy week ahead of him. Running his hands over the crisp clean sheets, he stretched out in the large luxurious bed for one last indulgent moment. As he shifted his legs, early morning sunlight scattered fractured kaleidoscopic patterns across the bottom of the quilt. A frown crossed his face, like a sudden cloud on a sunny day, and he got up. Verity Wood waited for no one.
