Bad News

Elizabeth, come here for a moment,” called my mother. I came running from my room knowing she hadn't been feeling well, I figured I ought to get there quickly. I walked into her room and she smiled at me. “Sit down, dear; I need to talk with you.”  “Yes mother,” I replied as I sat at the edge of her bed and held her hand. “There has been something going on that I should have told you a while back but I wasn't sure how to say it,” mother said. “As you have figured out I am very sick but what I haven't told you is that I only have 4 more weeks to live, I realize that is right after your 18th birthday but it is the reality of the situation. I worry about you and I have made an arrangement to make sure that you are taken care of after I am gone. It wasn't the ethical thing to do but I know that you will be taken care of for the rest of your life, have a place to lay your head at night, and food in your stomach.”
