Why an inset package on the underlying causes of autistic spectrum disorder (ASD)? What would it achieve?

The Warnock Report of 1978 and the 1981 Education Act raised issued relating to the rights to an inclusive education for children with special educational needs (SEN). The 1993 Education Act and the Code of Practice then set out the provision and policies ensuring the needs of such children are met within the mainstream setting. So as more children with SEN enter mainstream education it is crucial to arm all members of the school staff with some knowledge about the various disorders they are likely to encounter including ASD. Now whether they wanted to or not all teachers and support staff should develop skills in the area of SEN.
