A few days later Paisley was baking and preparing for a special event.
“That will do it,” she said while she removed the last of the pans from the oven and set them on the towels which lay on the counter top to cool. Paisley loved the aroma of pumpkin, banana, and zucchini breads that filled her house around the holiday season.
These scents made her feel closer to Grandma. Grandma showed her long ago, that adding a pinch of this and a pinch of that made everything perfect. Paisley acknowledged that her loaves may never compare to Grandma’s, but people seemed to enjoy them just the same.
“Those smell wonderful Miss Paisley,” Robert said as he stirred his cup of coffee. “Are you sure you can’t join us for our Christmas celebration?”
“I am sorry, but I can’t,” she told him. “I do hope it is a great celebration, but I need to be with my family.”
