My Pal Daisy

I say 'My Pal Daisy', but she is really my wife's dog. I have never had a dog of my own and never really aspired to own one. When I was younger I was more of a 'cat person', even though there was the saying that dogs have masters, but cats have servants. Dogs just didn't appeal to me.

From the time my family began to grow up, we had dogs. My elder daughter had a couple of Spaniels and the distress it caused her when the first one died also caused me a great deal of pain and turned me 'off' pets in general.

The boys also had dogs for pets and without exception they chose big ones - German Shepherds and the like - which were kept outside of the house in the yard. But while they were proud of their mates, they weren't too keen on looking after them.
