The Watchers from within moments, Revealed

A little girl’s scream pierced the shrouded darkness rousing Jim Vedder from his restless slumber. Betty, lying beside him, shot upward like a catapult. Jim could feel Betty’s subtle form arching forward—a mother’s attentive instinct, he supposed.

A second scream faded to a hushed sobbing. “Mommy…”

Betty flung the sheets aside. She leaped out of bed and rushed from the bedroom.

Jim slung his legs wearily onto the carpet. He opened his eyes and glanced toward the glowing red figures beside his bed: 2:14 a.m. Just three more hours, he thought. Please God, just allow me a few good hours of precious rest.

Jim Vedder’s eyelids slowly closed with the weight of the world. Fighting a losing battle with wakefulness, his head fell back to the comforting bed.
