I stumbled into the building to escape the numbing fog embalming the city. As the only lighted building in my hours of wandering it promised an oasis of warmth and calm, two things I sorely needed. Dread had hounded me all morning, shrouding me as completely as the mist. But the foyer was empty, and as cold as the streets.

The walls were aglow with blinding light, making the foyer seem that much colder than the fog-bound streets. Pulling the blanket draped across my shoulders more tightly together under my chin, I looked around and tried unsuccessfully to control my shivers.

No reception desk or cash registers…must have come in a side entrance. Sure is well-lit though, for a back-way. Wonder how the builder made the whole room glow… and why is that wall hanging from the ceiling?

Like a drywalled stalactite, it hung a few paces in front of me and bore a bas relief sign: A Time For All Things.

Huh… clock shop, gotta be. After all, can’t have a complete day without a corny pun and that would definitely put the corn in this crappy day.
