Suzanne smoothed away the imprint of her lover from the white duvet, unaware she was being observed. With memories of their passion still tingling over her skin, she smiled, inhaling the lingering scent of his soap, sweat, and heat.
Lost in thought, she was startled by the appearance of her husband leaning against the door frame, his gaze dark and detached.
Every muscle in her body tensed.
“Allan,” she croaked, her throat thick with fear. Carefully, she lowered her trembling body to the edge of the bed, tears of despair stinging her eyes. She'd learned long ago to fear him, and as he watched her now, his eyes foretold a danger beyond what she'd ever known.
As Allan moved forward, warm liquid traveled down Suzanne's bare legs beneath her white, cotton skirt, forming a small, odorless puddle at her feet.
