Know Your Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins are nutrients that your body requires to maintain good health. Most of the vitamins you need are found in your daily diet, especially if you follow the Food Guide. But sometimes you don’t always eat all the foods you need to get the right amount of vitamins into your body. It could be that you are unwell and are not eating as you normally would, or it could be that you are trying to lose weight, or even if you are on vacation. There are many reasons why you may not be getting the proper amount of vitamins in order for your body to function at an optimal level.

The question often arises: “Do I need to take vitamin supplements?” And the answer is fairly simple. If you eat the right foods and a balanced diet, you should not need to take vitamin supplements. But, if you are cutting back on certain food groups, especially if you are dieting, you may not be getting all the vitamins your body requires and in that case you should consider taking vitamin supplements. If you are in doubt, however, ask your doctor or food nutritionalist for advice on which vitamins you may need. A pharmacist can also recommend vitamin supplements customized to your personal situation.
