At first she thought he was drunk, motionless on the storage room floor. The space was no wider than a large man's arm-span, and perhaps only twice as deep. The only light came from the fire lantern in the Inn Keeper's outstretched hand. He reached up and set the light on a shelf built into the wall for that purpose. The keeper insisted this lump of rags was the thief that stole the King's ring and murdered her father, the King's guard. But the small, dirt-floored room did not reek of mead or wine. It smelled of flour and spices, things used to cook the Inn's meals.
