The Second Coming

Private investigator Aaron Fulton double checked the address in his hands to confirm his destination. The former police officer had traveled several hours by train to get to Arkham, Massachusetts from Virginia. The detective was a handsome young tanned man of a little over six feet tall. The tall man’s white collared shirt, unimaginative tie, dark jacket and slacks made for a clean, professional first impression. He approached the house of his potential client with his heavy heel-toe stride and stood at attention before the door. Fulton knocked heavily and he heard someone eagerly hustle to the door. An older grey-haired dark skinned man pulled the door open. He smiled genially and asked, “Are you Mister Aaron Fulton?”

“I am, sir,” Fulton confirmed. The older man’s pronunciation of his name was a mish-mash of his waning Arabic accent and his acquired New England one. The queer combination gave Fulton a fleeting twinge of irritation. Fulton thought, “I am definitely not a New Englander. I actually pronounce my a’s as a’s and my r's as r’s, unlike the locals on this side of the Mason-Dixon Line.”
